How it works
Who can subscribe to Community Solar?
The Community Solar program is open to PSE electric customers, including renters, homeowners and businesses, who receive their own bill.
How does the Community Solar program work?
- The program is voluntary, and enrollment is simple.
- PSE builds solar arrays around our service area and then splits the arrays into small “shares” for subscribing customers, like a garden plot in a pea patch.
- You can subscribe to shares in one or more available sites, up to 120% of your average electricity usage.
- The energy produced by your share(s) results in money back on your bill in the form of a credit.
- The amount of money back on your bill will vary based on real production of the solar energy sites — you may get more money back on your bill during the summer than winter, and the amount may differ depending on the location of the site.
- You can keep your shares for the life of the program, estimated to be up to 15 years or more.
- After a one-year term, you can cancel your subscription at any time, if desired.
- A portion of shares are available for income-eligible customers to participate in the Community Solar program at no cost. This provides a pathway for all customers to share in the financial and environmental benefits of Community Solar.
Will solar panels be installed on my roof?
No. The solar panels will be installed on the rooftops of publicly owned buildings and other properties across our service area. As a result, you can share the benefits of 100% local solar energy without having to invest in and install a rooftop solar system on your own. Whether you own or rent, there’s no roof or equipment required to participate.
